British Balloon and Airship Club (BBAC) Instructor available for UK CAA PPL-B training flights, located in southern Germany. Why not combine a holiday with some instructor flights in the Bodensee Allgäu area in my balloon
The Allgäu, located in southern Germany, is one of the most scenic ballooning regions in Europe. There are rolling green hills, interspersed with scattered forests and small lakes. In the backdrop are the Alps and Europe’s largest lake the Bodensee (Lake Constance). Its the perfect area for combing a holiday with some balloon training flights.
The ballooning activity is centered around the village of Eglofs (Argenbuehl), near Isny and not far from Wangen.
From here it is 40 minutes to Friedrichshafen (International Airport FDN), 1.5 hours to Munich (International Airport MUC) and only 30 minutes to Memmingen (International Airport MEM). Why not combine a holiday in this region with one or two BBAC balloon instructor flights?
Q What balloon do you fly?
Instructor flights take place using my Schroeder 77 with Cameron Double Burner and Basket.
Q Accommodation Options?
The balloon is kept in the small village of Eglofs. The refueling facilities are here and most of the flying is centered around this area. Eglofs itself has a small hotel and several restaurants. Holiday flats and apartments are also available. The Eglofs tourist information office has a list of available accommodation.
Q Getting there?
The nearest international airports are listed below together with transit times in a rented car.
- Memmingen – 30 Minutes (In Ryanair speak Munich West!)
- Friedrichshafen – 45 Minutes
- Munich (Josef Strauss) – 90 Minutes
- Stuttgart – 120 Minutes
- Zurich – 180 Minutes
Q What do you charge?
All I ask for is the cost of the propane that we use on a flight. There is no charge for the instruction or the use of the balloon.
Q What about the weather?
If its not flyable then there are plenty of other things to do in the area.
